People may steer away from traveling to Disney World in the summer. There are many good reasons to go in the summer though.

1. Longer hours. You can utilize early hours and evening later hours when it is cooler

2. PLAN. You can pre-select fast passes ahead of time (60 days for those staying on property and 30 days for anyone else). Use these to stand in less lines and on more attractions. I don’t usually suggest holding off using fast passes for later in the day because then you cannot add any at the parks but in the summer months, it makes sense. If you can get to the parks when they open, you can easily ride five to seven attractions that are high crowd attractors, before the bulk of the crowds get in. Most guests do not arrive before 10:30AM. Don’t do the ones you have pre-selected fast passes for unless you have time or want to ride it multiple times. Pre-select three rides later in the day (evening) for ones that are high attractors. You can then do some shows late morning before it really heats up, have lunch at the park or head back then and enjoy the pool and the other offerings at the resorts.

3. Having a sit down meal for lunch during hot days is a nice break. Eat at a grab n go (quick service) for dinner to spend more time at the pool and get in the park when it cools down.

4. There are less ride refurbishments. Most things tend to be open.

5. If you can travel the second week in August and beyond, the crowds will be even less. The kids are either back to school or back in their towns for fall sports practices.

6. It is great time to visit the water parks as part of your vacation and we are giving free water park tickets with most packages for the summer months.

7. Up to 30% off resort stays this summer and we can package it with tickets and dining plans.

8. There are still plenty of character dining options available. I did a quick search in mid-July and there are character breakfast reservations for Be Our guest, Princess meals, breakfast with Mickey and friends, etc.!

9. Kids will not miss school and the pools at the resorts are a kid’s dream!

10. Most of all, have a plan. Work with someone who does this as their specialty or do it on your own if that is the type of thing you like to do. Have a plan regardless; meal reservations, fast passes, park flow. This will make a trip in the summer, fall, winter, or spring so much more relaxing.

main street empty

Five reasons to go to Disney World in January and February

1. Less Crowds, more Attractions
There are days in January where you could throw a ball down Main Street and never run into anyone. It is truly the least crowded time of the year. February is not much more crowded. You do have to be mindful of a few exceptions. Marathon weekend Jan 7th-11th. Martin Luther King Weekend Jan. 16th-19th, Presidents’ weekend Feb. 13th-16th, and the princess half marathon Feb 19th-22nd.

This is the time some refurbishments are done but we are only seeing a few, two being water rides. The others being the Liberty Boat and Under the Sea with the Little mermaid. Cinderella’s Royal Table restaurant is also under an extensive refurbishment.

2. Lower temperatures, less rain

Many fear the heat and those summer afternoon rain showers at Disney. This is their time of year then. The highs are around 70 on many days and the lows dip to the low 50s. Yes the pools are heated to 78 degrees.

3. Lower prices
The first two months of the year are typically some of the lowest pricing of the year. There are current promotions out to drop the rates even more but just looking at it no promotion to no promotion, Feb 2nd for four nights vs the first week in May (another favorite time of year for me to travel to the happiest place in earth), prices are lower in February.

Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter trends $174 per night for the February dates and $198 a night in May. The promotion drops this to at least $147 a night on the February dates.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge trends $331 a night for a pool view and the first week in May, $401. The promotion in February drops the price to $231.

4. We all can Get the Winter Blues after the holidays
The cold creeps in and is more noticeable after the excitement of the holidays. Why not sneak away for a bit just to get out of the monotony of the everyday blahs in the winter.

5. Experience a new Character Dining Experience
While Cinderella’s Royal Table is under refurbishment, Citrico’s at Grand Floridian will host a Princess Brunch.
Citrico’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will begin hosting the Disney princesses Jan. 8, 2015, for breakfast and lunch. Reservations open to all guests on Dec. 4 by BY PHONE ONLY at 407-WDW-DINE (starting at 7 a.m. Eastern). Online reservations will be available at a later date. Or work with someone like Ears of Experience and they will do the dining reservations for you.

During this character dining experience, Cinderella and a rotating cast of princesses will visit each table for photos and autographs. The hours are 8 a.m.-2:20 p.m., and the cost is $49.99 for adults and $31.99 for children ages 3-9.

We Are the Plan Behind the Magic

Best Friends Pet Care, Walt Disney World

Best Friends Pet Care, Walt Disney World

Instead of leaving your pet at home the next time you visit Disney, bring it along with you and let it stay in style. Best Friends Pet Care, the new luxury pet care facility, is now open at the Walt Disney World® Resort. The 50,000-square-foot facility boasts air-conditioned rooms, “VIP” suites, and private outdoor yards for your pet. The staff will even read bedtime stories to your pet as one of the special features.  You can choose from a list of á la carte activities for your pet, including one-on-one play time, social playgroups with other dogs, and ice cream time.

The resort’s dog park includes a fenced walking trail bordering natural wetlands around the park. Inside the trail, there are a variety of play areas, including a 3,300 square-foot area covered in artificial turf, a 4,500 square-foot area with shade trees and a 1,300 square-foot “canines only” water park.

Feline guests can spend visits in a separate “Kitty City” pavilion (away from dogs) in two and four-room condos. And there’s even a special facility for the boarding of “pocket pets,” such as hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits and ferrets.

So, no matter what type of pet you own, rest assured they will enjoy their trip to Disney almost as much as you, while staying at Disney’s new luxury pet care facility.

Toy Story Mania!

Now that Toy Story 3 is out, it’s time to talk about my all time favorite ride at Disney; Toy Story Mania! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This attraction combines fun elements of my childhood with my competitive personality and makes me live for the one time in my bi-monthly trips I get to enjoy this ride.

When I enter this ride, I feel like I am walking into my toy closet as a child. As the line queue winds through the attraction on its way up to the beginning of the ride, I feel like I have been transported back in time. All of my favorites are here: Candy Land, Lincoln Logs, Chutes and Ladders, Mr. Potato Head, and even oversized, larger-than-life crayons. It is a kid’s (and adult’s) dream. The vibrant colors, the sheer joy of knowing I WILL beat my last score, and just enjoying the atmosphere with other people in line, puts me in a blissful place. Not every line at Disney does this for me; I can promise you that. I have, however; met some of the nicest people at this ride, and the line never seems as long as it says. With that said, there are a couple of rules to go by when going on Toy Story Mania! to make your experience the best it can be.

  1. First (and most importantly), go early in the day! I can’t stress this enough. Do not wait until later in the day to come over to Hollywood Studios thinking you will be able to hop right on and ride. This ride gets long very fast and stays long all day.
  2. Once you enter the park, go straight to this ride. Don’t even stop to Fast Pass Tower of Terror or Rock ‘n Rollercoaster. Rockin’s line moves quicker than any other and you will still be able to get a good time if you Fastpass it after Toy Story Mania!
  3. If you are thinking of Fastpassing this ride and waiting until later to ride it, you might want to reconsider. This ride has a tendency to break down occasionally and it may take 45 minutes or longer to reset. While resetting, they typically do not allow people to wait inside the building. This means that even with a Fastpass, you may still end up waiting for a while to ride.
  4.  Do not make the mistake of thinking you are in line for the ride, only to find out 20 minutes later that you are actually in line for the Fastpass machine. Both lines can be long! You have to walk past the Fastpass booths to get to the ride line, which is to the left of the entrance as you are looking at the door.
  5. Accuracy vs. total score. If you are going for a high score, keep pulling the trigger (string). You will not be penalized for missed shots, so keep on shooting.
  6. Ride secrets for higher scores. Each of the arcade games has its own secret tips to release higher scoring targets. Here are a few of them.

The Barn. Shoot the fox in the lower left corner to release a flock of high-scoring chickens in the same corner.

Plate Toss. Shoot both ‘jumping’ plates to initiate a screen full of high-scoring jumping plates. Once the screen clears, four jumping plates will appear. Along with your partner, shoot these four plates. If successful, the mountain will lift to reveal a tank.

Alien Ring Toss. Put rings on all eight of the aliens in the center spaceship before they reappear. If you do, the spaceship will take off to reveal a super alien, worth a whole lot of points.

Woody’s Roundup. Shooting the bullseyes will make them blossom into a tree of targets. Shoot all of these quickly to initiate new high-value targets. Also, Shoot the small bat near the top to activate a new really high-value target.

After going on this ride, I think you will see why it is one of my favorite rides in all of Walt Disney World. Whether you are competitive like me or just there to sit back and enjoy the ride, I believe this ride will soon be in your list of top attractions too. Enjoy.

There are some things you just cannot put a price tag on. I have just returned from a five day trip to Walt Disney World© with one of my closest and oldest friends. We have been friends since first grade; 33 years. We both have two girls close in age and seeing the four of them interact was priceless. The time spent together was amazing!

We saw friendships grow, hands being held, conversations I overheard that made me laugh, and they even encouraged one another to do things they may not have done if it wasn’t for one another. Very similar to experiences I have had with their mother over the years.

The Girls before dinner at California Grill, on top of the Contemporary

I love Disney for some many reasons of course but it is so great for groups like this. They accommodated us even on one of the busiest weeks of the year as best they could even with our multiple dining reservations. The pool at the Beach Club was perfect for our group as it has so many areas for different swimming abilities; sandy beach sections, slides, waterfalls, lazy rivers, etc. All the kids, regardless of swim level had their own favorite places. To then have time to catch up with one of my oldest friends while watching our kids having their time of their lives, was something I could not put a price tag on.

As I was driving home last night, I heard about a woman I have never met but is the wife of someone my husband worked with. She died yesterday of cancer at 33 years old. She was a mother, a friend, a wife. That could have been anyone. I feel very lucky and blessed to have had the five days I had with my dear friend and our kids, memories to last a lifetime. Even for me, someone that goes to Disney all the time.

Tips for travelling in a large group:

Disney affords a group the opportunity to both do things together as well as split up. I highly encourage folks to split up if they are in a large group to avoid trying to appease everyone and avoid rising tensions. Rarely does everyone want to do the same things all the time and if they always go with the crowd, regret and bad moods tend to arise. So split up, take a break from one another.  We had 9 in our party and sometimes you all just need a break.

Be flexible. If the kids are having fun swimming, let them swim. Believe me, I am all about a schedule but there is a fine line between Drill Sergeant and organized.

Stop and enjoy the little things. There are so many things at Walt Disney World© that are happening and when travelling in large groups, you are less likely to stop and enjoy these things. Some of these little things are the ones people remember the most.

Meet new people. Just because you are in a large group does not mean you cannot make new friends. This is the greatest place to meet new people. Whether you are standing in line, talking to a cast member, hanging at the pool, there is always a new face to talk to. I have met some of the friendliest, most interesting people from around the world at Disney. Who knows who might be a part of your group by the end of your trip!

Take pictures, videos, and don’t wait too long to do it again. One thing that I was reminded of today, life is too short, enjoy your friends and family.

They love Pooh! No matter what their age!

I love the feedback we get from our clients. We learn many new things from them like great room locations, fun little tid bits, and stories of their family adventures. When talking to a client we ran into in Epcot one night after dinner, she told me she saw a family at Akershus, which is a Princess meal in Norway. This family had a new spin on the autograph book -a pillowcase! What a great idea! The traditional autograph book is all the rage when you are in the parks, but is placed on a bookshelf when you get home to be forgotten about. Now, a pillowcase is a fun reminder on your bed every night of your memories and experiences with the characters that signed it. We contacted our great friend, Dawn Conn, owner of Hoops-A-Daisy embroidery who does monogramming for us. I told her the story and she came up with these adorable pillow cases. We took them down over Christmas and used bright colored Sharpies to get them signed.

My girls now sleep every night with them. Marin, my six year old says she likes her pillowcase because it has her name and Mickey Mouse on it and she can sleep with all the characters’ autographs every night.

We are now suggesting this idea to all our clients. It is too fun! We were a bit concerned about some of the characters being able to sign something flimsy like a pillowcase, but we held it tight for them and it worked. Many times, the cast members helped us out. I highly suggest this idea for your next trip to the “World”.

Please contact Dawn Conn if you are interested in these cute pillowcases.
